Some formatting changes to the Tag Action Window. (name & date are not treated specially, <varies> is now Artist Varies, etc.

I am not liking the new system. I'm finding it takes more time to do tagging changes to multiple files with this new system. I have to read the Tag Action Window much closer now, where before all I had to do was scan the window for instances of "<varies>" for each tag.

It seems like kind of a waste of space to have the tag name written out twice. For example, why should "Artist Varies" written beside Artist when: "<varies>" conveys exactly the same information.

I would really like this changed back. Does anyone else feel the same way?

<varies>
<varies>

and so you couldn't tell which one was the date just by looking. You had to know.

I suggested changing this to

<name varies>
<date varies>

Matt ran with it.

I agree that we don't need to have labels like these:

Artist <artist varies>
Album <album varies>

Wherever there is already a title, we could do it the way we did before:

Artist <varies>
Album <varies>

We'll tinker with it next week. Thanks for bringing it up.

Post by: benn600 on April 25, 2008, 07:18:23 pm: Any change they say they will or may make (or even don't say anything) will usually get added but I have yet to figure out there task priority list. Things seem to randomly get pushed forward while other issues quietly sit to be forgotten about--and then they get added.

I'd say give 2 weeks for the next big public release or two and then ask again.

Seems pretty logical to me.

I agree too that having artist <artist varies> is a bit superfluous in the tag AW.

However, in other parts of MC this allows for knowing which tags we are talking about. For example, when using fields to customize 'Thumbnail text' in a view, it is clearer to display <dimensions varies> instead of just <varies> for albums.

BTW the the top of the tag AW,seems to have changed lateley. 487 does not seem to display [Name] as it used to do.

The best would be a contextual display of fields depending on the location.
