Title: Last night's movie, and the night before
Post by: JimH on April 20, 2008, 06:50:43 pm
I had a little bit of a deja vu last night.  We watched "Apocalypse Now".  It was the Redux edition, with 50 minutes more than the original.  Surreal.  Completely surreal.

The night before, we watched "African Queen".  Katherine Hepburn, Humphry Bogart.  World War I in Africa.

Unintentionally, both movies we watched were about river journeys.  African Queen was down the river.  Apocolypse Now was up the river, with a Joseph Conrad twist.  "Oh, the horror".  The combination was an accident, but a powerful contrast.

Any other "lucky accidents" out there?

Geeeee Last Night

Was about to hit the sofa and watch a movie.

When all of a sudden the phone started ringing off the hook.

Its was all our kids calling us, one right after another.

(they are really adults and married).

But the message was the same, "Mom, there is a tornado headed your way"

We put on a local channel and reg. broadcasting was already broken into.

It was headed our way.

Told mom, we will watch the tracking and when it gets close, we will take the pound puppies and go into the main bath. (Walls are closer)

Well this went on for a while and then it fizzle out.

But, low and behold, there was a new one, much stronger, coming.

Oh boy, here we go again.

This time it was coming our direction again, but first thru where one of my sons live.

He called us and asked what to do, mom told him to go under the crawl space of his house.

Geeee, I can imagine him getting his wife under there, she is due anyday now.

He kept calling us on his Nextell, to see if it passed and finally it did, even though it hit a couple places around him.

So next, was our direction, but it was a little north when it passed and fizzle out.

But it did provide us an interesting evening.

 ;D

I had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago.  I had two recorded shows on the DVR from TCM.  The first I watched was the western Colorado Territory with Joel McCrea and Virginia Mayo.  After that, and out of > 100 recordings, I coincidentally decided to watch the Bogart film High Sierra, also starring the always fantastic Ida Lupino.  Turns out the stories are essentially the same, set in different mountain ranges, but with many verbatim lines.  Nice surprise.

The Caine Mutiny Was One Of My Favorite Bogart Movies.

I Always Loved The Old Gangster Movies Also.
