Title: Lily Haydn: Maggot Brain
Post by: MrC on April 29, 2008, 12:15:12 pm
No, that is not an insult, but the name of the climactic, anthem-like last track on Place Between Places, the new CD by Lily Haydn.  A relatively unknown rock/pop artist and former violinist for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Lili's electric violin fills her outstanding cover of Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, which allmusic.com describes via alliteration as "soaring, swooping violin sweeps across the song."

Have a listen to the full (albeit compressed) track at Henry Jackman's site: http://www.henryjackman.net/, under Audio, Pop.  You'll find some other good music there too.

Interesting. I heard a lot of Pink Floyd influence in there.

I'm not familiar with the original work, found this 10 minute audio on utube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh3bleXWaCk
Powerful stuff.
