I save all mp3's to one directory on my hard drive. This is the directory I use when using MJ version 7.2.280.
I copy that entire directory to my laptop so I can play the tunes 'on the road' using MJ on the laptop.
However I have been unable to export the playlists properly.
Kindly advise as to the most efficient way to accomplish this.
i've tried some searches but haven't seemed to be able to find the answer
Thanks,

Try a library backup / restore.
After restoring on the laptop, you may need to use "Find & Replace" to change the filenames from, for example, "C:\Music\" to "C:\My Laptop Music\"
(you'll need MJ 8 for find and replace)
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response Matt...
So # 1 is to upgrade my 7.2 to version 8 so I have the Find and Replace functionality.
Then follow your instructions... Is this right ?
Thanks again

Okay...
- I updated to MJ 8.
- Did Library backup.
- moved the backup to the laptop
- and did a library restore.
However I can't find the FIND AND REPLACE function you refer to.
The help file says theat the function is here:
The Tools options (on the File Menu when Media File Properties is open)
This is probably right in front of my nose but I can't locate the Find and Replace function under the File menu in MJ 8...
It would seem that moving your files to a laptop with your playlists would be a very common function and that the process should be simple to accomplish... what am I missing ?
any help with more specific instructions would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks again

thanks for the input... I must admit i'm pretty frustrated... I've been trying to simply move my playlists to my laptop and i've been at it all afternoon without success. I can move all the mp3's with no problem. I even tried renaming the directories exactly the same:
D/music on both machines.
The find and replace function doesn't SHOW what the file is named.
Do I need to change the file names of all the Mp3's or of all the playlists?
I don't quite get it... I transfer data constantly across networks without this kind of hassle
Isn't there an easier more intuitive way to do this ?
Pleeeese somebody give me a specific routine for moving playlists to another machine...
Thank you so much...
