No idea what I did to cause this, I just opened MC one time and it was taking 4 seconds or more to respond to the simplest mouse-click or button. Hopefully someone can please help me narrow this down to something I can fix?

Upgraded, rebooted.

I've also noticed that when MC and FF are running at same time, BSOD often occurs. I was looking for something desperately wrong in Windows, but I thought I should mention that here too. Whole scene is getting ridiculous, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

BSOD is a hardware / driver problem. Try unplugging anything extra, and updating your video driver.

JimH: Tried uninstalling foxytunes back when it started, because it did seem likely. Still blue-screened. MC was acting normal then, btw.
Matt: Updated all drivers when BSODs started. Could it be that the physical sound card has given up?
Tx 2 both for suggestions.
Oh, I also ran memtest86+ for about 8 hrs twice, and Prime95 for about the same time, once, running two tests simultaneously, max'ing each cpu.

Look at all devices attached and all drives.
Also try uninstalling your virus checker (to test). We've seen lots of problems related to virus checkers.

Thanks, and sorry so slow to get back....
Uninstalled Threatfire, and MC's behaviour shaped right up. Snappy as I'd ever want now. That's the good news.
Bad news is, I had to reinstall Windows, since my machine got so nuts I eventually even lost internet. So now I'll never know exactly what was wrong. I do remember updating a driver related to one of my drives, and that fixed something, but I forget what, LOL. After reinstalling, I got one more BSOD, one more weird rhythmic buzzing from sound card accompanied by frozen machine. No problems since. Confounded machines....
By the way, enjoying new version of MC, which is running beautifully.
Thanks again for your help.
