Title: Help! playing video from media server
Post by: cdrmaker on June 03, 2008, 10:18:00 pm
I have movies recorded to my hard drive as mpeg files, i'm using this computer as the media server. i'm using mc12.0.497. The second computer, also using mc12.0.497, sees my data base from the server machine, plays the music fine, sees the movie thumbnails (DVD covers scaned in as jpeg files) but wont play the movies. the info bar at the top just says "opening". Both these computers are using XP pro, connected to a wired ethernet network. I also have a laptop which runs vista and it does the same thing, no video playback.
please help!

What you're seeing is MC attempting to cache the video file before playback.

As MC doesn't transcode video for streaming, it attempts to download the entire file before it will play it. This is a weakness of the MC library server, and one that has often been requested to be changed. (It is not an issue if you use the MC UPnP server with a UPnP client)

The workaround can be seen in the FAQ (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=10029.msg312210#msg312210) - or -  Direct Link  (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=45526.msg312179#msg312179)

Are there plans to "fix" this weakness?
