Title: Feature request - NAS sleep support
Post by: AustinBike on June 07, 2008, 07:28:33 am
I have a music library on my server and the files are stored on a D-link DNS-323 NAS.

Server maps the music share as M:\ instead of \\192.168.1.120\music\

Because the NAS is not active 95% of the time, I would like to use the power saving feature that puts the NAS in sleep mode.  When it is in sleep mode I need to ping the NAS first and do a quick directory search (old school DOS) to "initialize" the NAS, then everything is fine.

However my wife is now using JR and tivo uses it as well, so if they do not do that, they get errors about not being able to find the music.

Is there a way you could build in some type of feature that would automatically ping the NAS to initialize?  Is there a "timeout" on the library where you can feed a tivo a "hold on a second" message while the spinup happens?

The other thought is what if I put the library on the NAS?  Would that prevent the spin up issue?  It seems that if it finds the library but not the files we have a problem.  If it takes time to find the library, is  there a longer timeout?
