Title: Scrolliness of mouse wheel
Post by: Mr ChriZ on June 11, 2008, 05:35:36 pm
Is anyone finding the mouse scrolling a bit strange in Standard view?

I'm finding if i move the scroll wheel slowly nothing happens.
If I move it fast, it doesn't register for quite a good turn of the wheel.
I've tried removing intellipoint type software.

Scrolling in other apps is working fine..

I've only got one machine to test this one atm.

In my case it only scrolls about a 5th of a page, I would like a full page, that's how it works on the internet.

Seems to be specific to my Microsoft Natural Lazer Mouse 7000.
Plug original Dell Mouse in and it's fine  ?

With my logitech revolution, scrolling in MC is utter pants!!

It has a freewheeling mouse wheel (no clicks) which is great, but in MC, scrolling down is much the same as you. Nothing happens until I give the wheel a real good spin, which causes the list to shoot straight to the bottom.
At which point, I can scroll upwards as slowly as I like and the list responds nicely to the wheel.

I mentioned this some time ago and was unceremoniously shot down in flames for it.
When using MC, I've actually adapted to this behaviour by shooting to the bottom of the list without thinking about it, then scrolling slowly back up to find what I'm looking for.

I've experimented with mouse settings to the point where I'm sick of the sight of mouse settings.
I don't see this problem in any other program I use.
I don't know what the answer is.

-marko.

I've given up on scrolling with my Microsoft Notebook 3000 mouse. It's never worked properly (with or without the Intellipoint software).

Same with my MS one, I wonder if this is the problem, MC is in someway waiting for definite
click values?

Jim buy Matt a new mouse :-)

"Scrolliness"?

Only mouse wheel issue I get is with Firefox.  Oddly disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse fixes it.

Scrolling in MC on my Macbook Pro is an exercise in frustration as well....

And scrolliness is a fantastic new word!   ;D

I am having a "clickiness" issue.   ;D
When I have a group of files selected and right-click to edit a field, at times MC will un-select on Right-click rather than bring up the right-click menu. So far "scrolliness" has been fine.

I had the same problem than Marko with my logitech MX Revolution.

A search on this forum led me to this config file for setpoint:
http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/ (http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/)

It worked great the first time (it also allows to configure more freely the different functions assigned to buttons). Unfortunately it doesn't seemed to work every time.

Also sometimes unloading setpoint makes scrolling back to normal.

Anyway, now after just ONE fall from my mouse, the freewheeling doesn't work anymore so I don't have this kind of problem :-\ That's not the way I had imagined to solve this...

Yeah, another vote: same 'scrolliness' issue here - Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 (it says on the bottom). Never installed the accompanying software - I dont want a magnifying glass or configurable buttons etc etc - just wanted a plain mouse. My previous standard Dell mouse worked, until it broke.

Same symptoms as Mr_Chriz. I dont use the wheel with MC anymore - every other app seems to work. Love to see this work, but not the end of the world. Its easy/understandable for people to expect ths sort of 'standard' stuff to just work, I feel that way myself. Get the impression its complicated for JR to cope with all the bell and whistle mouse software out there.

Dosnt ruin my MC experience. Would kill for a solution though.

I have scrolliness issues too. Also using a MS laser mouse. Maybe its a lack of laserness, except the wheel doesn't use the laser, so maybe its a wheelness problem.  :P

Hmmm...not seeing any issues with (3) separate Logitech mice. What about giving UberOptions http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/ (http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/) a whirl; I find it actually essential if using a Log. mouse. I also run Setpoint 2.47 from a few years ago because it allows track forward and back when MC is not in focus; anything newer breaks this even after editing the Logitech .xml files.

I've found MC to respond accurately to the settings in Setpoint for 'number of lines to scroll' per rotation.

Do your mice have a clicky scroll wheel or a non clicky one?
I'm intrigued.

I've concluded i've two problems with my MS mouse.
1. MC just doesn't pick up the accurate small scrolling, with the slidey wheel.  I think this is a problem with MC.
2. After the machines come back from hibernating the scroll wheel settings go crazy in all programs, causing scrolling
to go uber slow.  This seems like an MS problem so I'm going to give them a ring on Monday.

Edit:
I've may have found a soloution to number 2:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_devices/browse_thread/thread/d5d0b7b1420e088a

Edit 2:
Seems to work! :-D
One scrolliness issue down, one to go! :-)

My Log. Nano has both click and "frictionless"; you push it down to switch between modes. Glad you got one figured out! That issue would drive me NUTS!
