Title: Looking for info on File / Folder operations
Post by: aeb3 on June 19, 2008, 08:52:04 am
Looking for some information on how MC12 handles Files and Folders.
I'm a former iTunes user (well, not former quite yet...), I used it to organize my audio and video files (as they're actually stored on your filesystem / hard disk).
What I'd like to be able to do is (just as an example) load a handful of files into MC and have the files end up in some central location (C:\Music\[Artist]\[album]\ or something) with some sort of reasonable file name.
I don't want to do this manually - I'd like to be able to click a button and have these folders and filenames happen (like the button in iTunes that does "Consolidate Library").
I've read through the help file and I can't really make heads or tails of it...the only thing I could really find was setting the "Ripping Recording & other Audio" directory, but that doesn't seem to affect the location of files that are imported.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Interact.

Try right clicking a few files and then choosing Library Tools/Rename, Move, Copy.  When you hover over the files there, you'll see what the effects of your settings are.

Pick files in Media Center and use Tools > Library Tools > Rename, Move, & Copy Files... (also available as a right-click)

It lets you do exactly what you're asking for.

[EDIT -- Jim beat me to the punch]

Perfect, this is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.
Many thanks!
