Title: Datamaster question
Post by: dasfoo on June 20, 2008, 06:19:02 pm
First off, thanks to King Sparta for such a useful tool.

Now, I'm kind of old-school when it comes to alphabetization and I absolutely recoil in horror at the Internet-era trend of ordering artist names by First Name. So I swam against the current and meticulously tagged all my files in MC with Artist Names that will sort correctly:

Doors, The
Petty, Tom
etc.

The problem that occurs, however, is that when trying to use handy tools like Datamaster it often won't find any data for very common albums, and my guess is that it's because a lot of artist names don't match (this really only seems to be an issue with Last Name, First Name tags).

I know this is my problem, but I bet a few others have also hit this brick wall as we cling to standards in an age of illiteracy. So one option for me would be to create a custom field like "Artist Sort," copy all my current names into that field, and then go through and fix all the correct Artist Names to fit the contemporary style.

But I was also wondering if it would be possible for Datamaster to employ a fuzzier search method that would look at "Apple, Fiona" and find "Fiona Apple?" Or would that open up too much room for incorrect data getting imported?

My other alternative is just to use the Doof plugin and go track by track through the 17000+ lyricsless files until they're all happy. I have been known to do such things in the past, but I'm trying to get beyond that.

Any ideas? Thanks.

King, one question on Datamaster recently. When I have tried to use it in the past week or two in batch mode, the first 5 or so songs move through quickly and then it starts going at a crawl. I eventually just stop it because it takes so long. This is from two different computers/networks so I was wondering if there is something happening on your end?

Can you please clarify this? Does this mean that soon we will no longer be able to use DataMaster?

No

But When MC13 Comes Out And If It Does Not Work With MC13 Then I May Terminate Access.

It Is More Of A Wait And See..

Let's hope Matt considers this as a design criteria for MC13.

Is DataMaster working fine for everybody else? I had 29 songs in Playing Now and tried to do just a download of lyrics. It went at normal speed but when it got to song 5, it just slowed way way down. I eventually just stopped it.

Jeff,

Working fine for me. I just tested 107 files and it processed in 2 minutes 42 seconds.

It may depend on the users connection, And The Load On My Server.

I just tried again with 16 songs and this time it went through smoothly. I have seen the same thing on two computers, one at home and one at work so it appears that it is the server's load.

I'm getting nowhere with this plugin as of .523

I wonder if it really is the server or if its become incompatible.

What a bummer....

I've got 1000GB of space and 300GB transfer a month. I use a fraction of the site for myself, and I be willing to offer a mirror to the data if it would improve performance.

best,
