I've been having the problem of MC freezing and crashing when ever I run Auto Import (library folders).
I've uninstalled, downloaded and installedthe latest MC, but once adding the folders I chose tools> auto import , then after a short while, it freezes and then eventually has to close cause it's not responding.
Does anyone have an idea what's causing it?

It's probably getting stuck on a specific file. You could try doing smaller sets of files at once to narrow it down.
Also, please email a log (Help > Logging) showing a hang / crash to matt at jriver dot com and we'll see if the log has a clue.
Thanks.

A bad DirectShow filter could be the problem.
Try importing single directories at a time. Or single filetypes.

Hello Matt
I emailed you the log file.
Another thing is that it only seems to happen when the "building thumbnails" is in progress.
Thank you.
-
Matt, you were correct about that file. It was damaged. I deleted it and everything seems to be fine.
I did decide to redo the library though, and MC has now been updating thumbnails of about 30,000 files. It has been about 16 hours now only about 6000 of the 30000 thumbnails have been updated so far.
Is this normal for it too take so long?
-
What type of file was it? MP3? MPG? Do you have a copy we could try?
-
It was a jpeg that was corrupted.I'll see if |I can get it from the recycle bin and send it if you want.
Is it normaol for the thumbnail updating to take so long? Or is there something else the matter?
-
If you can find it, please e-mail it to matt at jriver with a link to this thread.
Your time isn't normal.
Are your data and your library local or on a network drive?
Virus checkers can cause serious problems. See the "Weird Problems" link in my signature for some examples.

Thanks for the file. Media Center does not like it.
We'll figure out why Monday, and put a fix for it in a coming build of Media Center 12.
