It looks like the folks behind CCCP are planning to release an update in a week or three.
It's only been 6 months........
The Klite packs (more frequently updated than CCCP) are in a beta period for their version 4.0

The Klite packs were all updated today, fast downloads are available from www.fileforum.com

I've always kept and installed my codecs by hand, but it's getting too time consuming these days so I was debating as to whether to go with Klite or CCCP. Anyone have any good advice one way or the other?

We've had very good experience with CCCP. You can read about it in our Wiki (link above). Start with DirectShow.

Klite packs are now at version 4.17. They also have a tweaker/fixer utility available.
A refreshed release of CCCP is *still* delayed.
The most current stable is 24 Jan 2008 although there is beta test release available dated 10 July 2008.
