Hi, been trying this for some time now, and I need some advice please.
Hard/software info: Fileserver and client is both running WinXP and latest MediaCenter version.
Adding a proper MKV file to the library on the server is not a problem. Playingthe file locally on the server is also no problem, BUT when trying to run the MKV file from the client when the file is accessed using library server (running on the server) the only thing I get is an error:
"Media center encountered errors while trying to play the last several files. Please make sure the path in your media library points to the right location. Error details: Direct show: Unspecified error. Code=0x80004005"
The same file can of course be added to the local library on the client and played perfectly, so there's NO issue what so ever about the location of the file.
Playing either Audio or Images using library server works like a dream. Only video seems to be the problem.
Also, MKV-files have been marked as "Video" under Options->File Associations on both server AND client. Still no change.
Getting video to play is the one missing object from getting the perfect media-setup at home.
Anyone got the solution on this one?

I'm not familiar with MKV files, but this is probably from the Direct Show filters used to play the file. Library Server uses "http" style accesses, and many formats that use Direct Show cannot be played this way.

Are your mkvs playing on any of your computers? If so, right click on a playing mkv in playing now, and look at the "filters" that are being used. They may not be installed on your other computers.
Most people here use CCCP which is a collection of filters that just about plays back every kind of audio and video file possible. Look at the MC wiki (search for Directshow) for more info.

Thanks for the reply. I can play the file if I browse the share through windows explorer, or even in MC through my own local library, just not through the library server.

Did you notice this:
Library Server uses "http" style accesses, and many formats that use Direct Show cannot be played this way.
Library Server is not a good option for video files. In my experience it is usable only with MPEG1 files.
