Post by: gitcheye on August 25, 2008, 02:33:50 pm
I am running windows xp with the latest MC 12.0.531.....Suddenly mc12 is not recognizing my 80 gb ipod.  the error reads "device information cannot be retrieved.  Please reboot your PC and retry."  I have rebooted my pc, rebooted my ipod, reinstalled mc 12 and reformatted my ipod.  I need some help.  Thanks.

I have been having the same problem with an 80GB iPod Classic.  My fix has been to try to sync, get the error, unplug the dock cable from the bottom of the iPod while Media Center is running and the iPod is on (don't do a proper eject), then plug the dock cable back in.  Media Center identifies the iPod after that.

Just updated from 12.0.470 to 12.0.531.

After plugging in my iPod Nano 2G I get consistent error "device information cannot be retrieved".

I tried the following without success:
- reboot PC
- iPod hard reset
- unplug/replug with MC running

I thought about reinitializing the iPod with MC however this is not possible because MC does not see it.

Note that Windows does correctly detect my iPod and it shows up as a drive letter as expected.

iPod syncing has been working perfectly for many months with 12.0.470 so I suspect something is broken in 12.0.531.
