Title: On September 10, Media Center 13 beta will first be introduced here
Post by: JimH on August 26, 2008, 03:19:52 pm
We'll be showing early versions of Media Center 13 on September 10.

New feature set so far:

Link Bar -- Text links to search for more info on an artist or title at google, google images, YouTube, and Wikipedia.  Customizeable to add or remove links.
Customize View replaces existing Add and Edit View Schemes -- easier to use
Flickr -- Upload to your Flickr account
Youtube -- Support for high quality video
Tabs and split views are no longer related, meaning it's possible to have tabs inside splits.
TV -- Tune by pressing keyboard or remote numbers
TV -- Digital TV (ATSC only) has a context menu for audio program selection
TV -- EPG structure added -- can load from digital channel or from XML file
TV -- Custom channel names
TV -- XMLTV support for the EPG
TV -- Channels are added to database
Theater View -- New onscreen keyboard
Theater View -- When saving a playlist, a name can be entered using an
Theater View -- Allows basic tagging using an onscreen keyboard.
Theater View "Views" menu is fully configurable

Pricing -- $40 to buy now (may increase later).  $19.98 to upgrade from MJ8, MC9, MC10, MC11, or MC12.  Purchasers of MC12 since August 8, 2008 have received an MC13 license.  Any MC13 license will also work with recent versions of MC12.  If you bought MC before August 8, 2008, you'll be able to upgrade for $19.98 once you have MC13 installed.

As always, early versions may be rough.  The feature set will continue to expand.  We intend to emphasize video, TV, and Theater View, and not spend as much time on music.

wow, i just wanted to say great new feature set... particularly the EPG addition. i really felt that was a serious shortcoming of MC, and look forward to messing around with DVR functionality in MC13!

also, nice to see flickr uploading support. i'm sure other people will request other uploading too, whether it be video to youtube/facebook/myspace, or pictures to places like facebook/myspace/picassa/whatever hosting site people use.

Will 13 run video and TV fine on an 8 year old amd-2400, I have an ATI 7800 I can install in it?  Also will there be enough music features to warrant upgrading for us music nuts?  It's hard to imagine you could improve on 12's handling of music much.

Great improvements, but no any change in the base (user rights, synchronization tags (ipod can and MC can not!)?  :o

We intend to emphasize video, TV, and Theater View, and not spend as much time on music.

If that's the case, let's make sure that Blue Support is fully integrated and full featured!!!!

Here's the Link Bar:

Hopefully, the Link Bar support will include the much-needed <Ctrl><Click> support and opening the linked to screen in a **NEW** tab (like good tab-supported programs should have...ref: Firefox).  This has been requested before (for things like 'Locate...' and 'Favorites...' functions).  Opening in a new tab preserves your current content and lets you view the 'new' screen data in a new tab.

Yup, that's really the only benefit I find for tabs in a program.

MC13 sounds really exciting!

How about Blu-ray support?
