After many years of using MC on a XP machine with 2 Netgear MP101 players the old PC died.
Just purchased a brand new machine with VISTA and loaded MC12
MP101 finds server fine, navigates to music and plays first track, no problems. This was all too good to be true.
With playlist or playing whole albums I get the first track then a long gap while the MP101 shows the timer then returns to the playlist or album displaying the next track ready to select and play ?
What can I check ?

Anybody using MP101 on VISTA ?
I'm prepared to believe it is an issue with the player, however I have been using the 2 MP101 players on the same network with MC for around 4 years. So some setting in the new MC installation is my first suspect.
Thanks

Still having problems. Is anybody using Netgear MP101 with MC12 on Vista ?
On Old XP PC MP101 worked OK
On new Vista machine MP101 oly plays one track at a time then returns to list of tracks in that album or playlist.
Could this in any way be connected with the background search for album art that seems to be going on all the time ? (Just mention this because teh MC12 Log is full of references to loading cover art)
I have disabled firewall - no effect.
I have enabled auto detect device - no effect
I have tried playing both FLAC (converting to MP3) and native MP3 files
If I play a track and navigate around (next track etc.) all is well. If I leave a track playing to completion or over about 2 minutes then the next track will not play.
I have loaded another uPNP server (twonky) on the vista PC and it does not have the same problem.
MC12 media server log shows:-

Any suggestions ?

Make sure your version of MC is current. 12.0.534 is on the download page.
Compare settings with your old PC if possible.
This is very odd:
If I play a track and navigate around (next track etc.) all is well. If I leave a track playing to completion or over about 2 minutes then the next track will not play.
I assume you mean that if the PC is actively used, it works. Any activity? Or just MC?
It's possible, if that's what you mean, that the machine is bogged down. On a new install, MC does a lot of work thumbnailing, etc. You could force MC to "Build missing thumbnails" in Options/Tree & View/ Thumbnails. Turn off auto-import (under Library) and cover art lookup (under General).
Vista does a lot of extra things for security purposes. I don't use Vista, but investigate UAC.

I'm using current version of MC12

The Old PC is dead unfortunatly.
When I talk about navigating tracks I'm using the MP101. During this time there is no manual activity on the PC and MC is the only application running.
I have tried turning off auto-import and cover art and thumbnails - no difference. all references to finding cover art have gone from the MC12 log. This is new install with over 30K audio tracks.
I'm perfectly prepared to believe VISTA is doing something strange but how can I find out what ? Both MP101 players find the server, play tracks and even display the track list again after the first track plays.
I mentioned that TWONKY server plays sucessive tracks without problems on the same VISTA machine.
It is as though under MC12 if communication ceases for a while (while the player is playing the buffered track) MC "forgets" what it is doing and interprests the request for teh next track as something new ?

This was as a result of starting to play an album. One track played OK followed by a 30 pause on the MP101 player and a return to the track list for that album. Nothing else was running on the PC at that time.
Strange I know, but that is why I'm posting here.

Do you see the request for the second song in the log?
It sounds like the MP101 is timing out (for whatever reason).
Did you try the UPnP entry on our Wiki? Link to wiki is above.

Thanks for that info.
The last post on both threads from 2007 asks for any info on streaming players that do work with MC on VISTA....no response
A shame, MC has been a great program for a number of years but I don't have the cash to buy other players without some indication they will work.
I'll have to use the alternative server that I have already tested.

We'll try to take a look at this problem this next week.
-
Thanks,
I know there are commercial realities, and VISTA has all sorts of compatability issues, and as the MP101 is now no longer supported by netgear it may be a fools errand.
But having an all-in-one solution with MC has been great and the streaming is an essential part of this for me.
These days VISTA is hard to avoid and the MP101 does work on my system with the other server.
Please let me know if there is any information I can provide.

Any Progress on UPnP players with VISTA ?
-
Matt spent several hours looking at this problem, without finding a fix. We think it's a change at the network level in Vista. Other UPnP devices work with Vista.
I'm sorry, but I don't think we can help.

Is there a list of UPnP players that do work with VISTA ?

I am using a DSM-520 from D-link under Vista. It works really well with music and video.

Anybody having any luck with audio only servers ?

Can anybody tell me which other UPnP devices work with MC12 on VISTA ? prefereably audio only that does not require a monitor.
Thnaks.

I have a Roku Soundbridge M1001 and my machine runs with Vista. I just ran a test by listening to the first song of a playlist and letting it advance to the second one in the list. No problems.
I haven't used my Roku much lately, so I'm not sure my test is conclusive enough for me to suggest that you buy one. Maybe others who use theirs more than I do can vouch for it when used on a Vista PC.
