Title: MKVs... out of ideas
Post by: cper2008 on September 30, 2008, 12:35:27 am
Hi there,

Recently I downloaded MC12 to test if it can play MKV files with superior audio quality than what I have in my system.

With Media Player Classic, I can get smooth playback along with working audio without issues.  However in MC12, I'm getting very choppy video and the audio will lag every 10 seconds. However, since MC comes with ASIO, the sound is MUCH better (better sense of direction). What do I have to do to get MKV to play smoothly?

I have CCCP installed. Also I have the latest Haali Media Splitter. I have tried to follow the wiki guide and tweaking everything possible. But no matter what the video is laggy and the audio cuts out (but it sounds AMAZING regardless). Should MC be able to play MKV files without any tweaking or do I need to change a lot of settings in order to play these files?

I'm really out of ideas. Sorry If I sound like a newb but I really want to get MKV playback working. Any advice on this matter is greatly appreciated!

What codec are the mkv files video's encoded in?
Are they SD or HD? Is your computer fast enough?
Do you see the haali and ffdshow audio and video icons in the taskbar when you play a mkv file?

Not sure what the codecs are.. but when I try to play it in MC12 I see ffdshow at the right bottom corner of my taskbar, along with ffdaudio decoder and haali media splitter.

It is HD (1920 res). Plays fine through media player classic so I don't think it's a computer speed problem.

I also see in the filter options in the mkv selection I have haali media splitter/ffdshow audio/ffdshow selected with haali media splitter as the video renderer. I'm not sure what I need to do to get mkv playing correctly. It just plays it just fine in media player classic (no lag at all, silky smooth) so I'm assuming it's a configuration issue.

Okay here's what else happened. I have ffdshow and ffdaudio running at the bottom right corner when I try to play the file but of course it lags and skips. The funny thing is no matter what I do I ALWAYS have two ffdaudio decoder at the bottom right of my screen.

i use mainly mkv files without a problem. and they play fine in mc... just to say that it should be possible. have you tried an other video renderer, for instance Video Mixing Renderer 9

when you play the video, rightclick on it, go to directshow filters>copy graph info to clipboard, and past that info here.

Is this happening to all your mkvs or just some? If some are playable then I would say that a codec required to play the problem ones is missing. I am getting perfect playback of h.264 encoded mkvs using ffdshow video decoder.

Other MKVs are okay.... all depends though, none of them are smooth as they could be like in MPC.

According to the info I've pasted, how should I configure MC12?

i dont have h.264 files. i could post my filterinfo but that would not help i guess.

you could also check what filters MPC uses.

Yes I've tried using video mixer 9, 7, all the options in that box.

How should I adjust the filter? Only adjust the mkv file filter or highlight everything then adjust the filter for all filetypes?

I'll try and see what MPC uses tonight.

no.. i think one file type at the time...

maybe you could find some usefull info in the wiki, if you have not done that yet: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/DirectShow_Playback_Guide

an other thing to try: uncheck 'use windows media player engine for video playback when possible' under options>playback>directshow playback settings.
