Title: Silencing audio during seeks
Post by: raym on October 30, 2008, 04:26:52 am
I'm using an optical spdif PASSTHRU connection to my surround receiver for all audio out of MC. While seeking (5x 20x 100x) videos (DVDs,AVI's,MKV's etc) audio is muted until playback is resumed.  With timeshifted TV playback however, seeks are causing bursts of audio.

Problem is happening in MC13 but it's been around since 12.

Any chance of a fix for this sometime soon please? This is a very old problem.

Thanks in advance.

* BUMP *

Ok, if there's nothing MC can do about this then is there some other solution please?

When I seek on recorded TV I don't hear bursts of sound.  Are you recording digital or analog broadcast?

I'm not talking about recorded tv. I talking about digital live timshifted tv and I'm referring to dvd style seeks - 5x, 20x, 100x. On ALL my systems using spdif output to an external receiver, it's a problem ONLY for timeshifted tv playback. All other video formats INCLUDING recorded tv is fine - audio is muted during seeking as expected.

Yaobing identified this as an issue over a year ago in another thread (which I can no longer find). I'm still keen on a fix if possible.

I just tried fast forwarding during time shifted television.  I didn't notice any sound bursts.  My particular setup and hardware is not fully compatible or has some issues because when I fast forward, I barely see the screen update as I progress forward.  It pretty much just stops.  Fast forwarding DVDs is ultra smooth.  I think a huge number of people use MC for television so I find it very strange that such a critical issue would exist at all.  I bet it is something with your specific setup.  If it was widespread it would be fixed right now.

*sigh*

Benn, like I said, I'm persisting with this because Yaobing had confirmed this to be an issue himself some time back so I'd like to see how it's progressing. I'm pleased for you that you're not seeing the problem but just because you're not doesn't mean it isn't there.

Yaobing, perhaps you could pitch in when you get an opportunity please?...

I bet you'll get some response Monday.  It is the weekend.  I find that there are a lot of posts on weekends but the bulk is weekdays, during the work day.  I have got numerous threads awaiting a response from Yaobing and I really hope some of my issues can be considered for resolution if possible.
