EDIT: I also recorded a video to show the problem, in case I failed to explain properly.. There's no analyzing because I had loaded the file previously to test...

I've had this problem for a while in MC12, and I still do in MC13, and it is now time to get to the bottom of it!
I use a secondary zone for video playback (so that I don't disturb paused audio mostly). I don't organize videos in MC (currently), but launch the video files from windows shell. The problem is a lot of the time when I launch some video (it's enough just to put it in the playlist), MC sort of locks the focus. If I try to click on Opera, e.g., that window is only selected for a flash, then it loses focus. In MC I have the same problem, e.g. clicking on a menu brings that menu up for an instant, then it disappears. It's as though the computer refuses to let me do anything. I am usually able to get out of this deadlock through playing the videofile, stopping (sometimes multiple times). Trying to import videofiles brings the same behavior, I think. So I didn't bother (I had intended to perhaps start organizing video with 13...).
And one other thing: when bringing a file into MC, it takes forever for MC to "analyze" it. (I'm talking about x264 720p .mkv's here). Other programs like WMP, Zoom or MPC starts the same videos in a fraction of what it takes for MC to "analyze" them.
I'm running Vista x64 BTW.

Did you check "always on top" settings for each zone?

I'm not sure what you mean.. Where is that setting?

You can see why I'm slightly annoyed at this... The computer becomes absolutely unusable. This time it got out of it itself it seemed, after a while...

Right click on display screen/ display settings/ always on top. For each zone.

Is the problem somehow related to the zones or why do you describe that part?
Does it occur only with x.264 mkv video files? Do you have any divx/xvid-avi or mpeg files that you can test?
Do you use CoreAVC for decoding x.264?
Can you right-click the display during playback and access the DirectShow menu? I guess also that is not possible, but if it works post the graph info here. Right-Click > DirectShow Filters > Copy graph info to clipboard

Right click on display screen/ display settings/ always on top. For each zone.
I think that setting is effective only when the display window is detached. Even when it is enabled it should not steal focus from MC's standard view or other programs. It is supposed to just keep the detached display window on top.

Right, I tested with a standard xvid, and a wmv - it's the same problem.
And no, I guess it has nothing to do with the zones, I just thought I'd explain my circumstances and not exclude anything potentially significant. It's the same in zone 1 though.
I don't have CoreAVC installed. I think I use ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter...
You're right about not getting to that menu - until the focus "unlocks" (and BTW, it seems it always does do this given enough time)... Here's what you wanted:

I think this is a quite significant problem that severly impacts the user experience.. Nobody has any idea what causes this? Running 0.69 now.
-
It's not this problem (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=49092.0), is it?
-
Is there any way to reset MC directshow settings? I think that when I tried to get the brightness setting to work (I failed, but found that I could alter it though ffdshows own controlpanel which is conveniently linked to in MC) I might have messed something up. I can't remember if I had the problem before.
