Title: Question about "read only" library access
Post by: galahad1974 on November 05, 2008, 11:54:28 pm
I run a similar set up to many out there, where my library is on a network share and the primary system has write access and all my media centers around the house have read only acces as subsequent openers of the lib. This actually has a number of benifits BUT..... is there any way to make the read only station refresh thier view without restarting MC? as it is, they only see the state of the lib when they opened it up and dont see any files added after that till i restart.

You could fudge it by setting up Auto Import on each of the read only clients to "watch" for new content as it's added.

Would that work for you?

Actually thats what im doing now, but id really rather it not show up on my clients untill its been imported into the main library and labeled correctly. Thanks for the reply though.

Yeah, I think restarting MC is your only option then. For now at least.

dont know if it is an option for your setup, but i guess you could schedule it using the library load command. i expect that when the library is reloaded the playback will stop.

I have a similar setup and use the MCC_LOAD_LIBRARY_READ_ONLY command from the command line to refresh the library without having to restart MC.

Try to run this from the command line (replace '1' with the index of the library you want to refresh):

MC13.exe /MCC 20028,1

Does it stop playback of the current track when you do this?

Yes, but you are reloading the library so I think it has to stop in case the currently playing file is no longer in the library.

yes, but i guess also the files in playing now change to those in the main lib. i dont have a setup like this.

Is there any way in this situation to have the clients correctly update the [number plays] field or even the bookmark? I realise this isnt logically do-able,  but ive seen some workarounds for other things that also seem like they shoudlnt be able to be done.
