Title: Artist Name From Album?
Post by: stevenf on November 28, 2008, 03:56:29 am
Is there a way to remove the artist name from the Album. For Instance:

In Pane when i click on AC/DC it says this

Powerage by AC/DC

Let There Be Rock by AC/DC and so on.

Is there a way to remove the by AC/DC from the album?

Thanks

Is there a way? Yes...

1. Select all tracks in the album
2. Right click in the album column and choose "Rename"
3. type: =removeright([album],9)
4. press enter.

To Marko

To modifiy the field Artist album, you wrote : "3. type: =removeright([album],x)"

But it's easly to write letter by letter the wanted name, no ?

For a single album, probably, yes...

And now you made me think about it a little more, the steps I've outlined will only be good for AC/DC or any other artists he has a problem with that only has five characters in their name!!

steven, how many albums you talking about here?
If it's hundreds, maybe think about using the rename from properties tool to rename the files to just [album].mp3 (leave directories unchecked)
then use the fill properties from filename tool on the same files. Again, directories unchecked, filename will be: [album] []
then finally, rename from propeties to restore the filenames the way they were before you started.

Good catch New Vermaje, thanks for the nudge :)

Marko been trying your guys renamer withinjriver...

im really stumpt on how this works?

i just found under audio mode an Artist named Artists.. And here are over 540 files in there from all types of my music folders and some hw all the artists got named artist

and all the name fields are track so i chose fill name with filename, by doing so the filename for most o fthem have numbers(tracks in the front...

 Example 06 Clint Eastwood
Example 08 Castles In The Sky

how do i get the track numbers out of all these with your remove you speak of?  every time i try the remove it actually ads numbers to the end of filename?

Ive checked out the help section in manual  but cant find any clues. is there any maual for the renamer part of JRiver? a wiki? the little popups for the renamers when you choose insert fields, insert functions really have me lost, plus i dont know whether to rename Directories? or Filename spot?

I've tried to do it both ways, but the same problem still exists. I'm still getting the album and the BY ARTIST, which ever artist that album belongs to.

Surely this has been seen by those that create the builds and you would think that such an oversight would have been fixed by now, especially as it seems pointless to have an artist name, and then that artist name repeated for every album.

That's exactly what i mean.

This is how i would like it to look

Sonic Youth

A Thousand Leaves

The By Sonic Youth is unwanted and unneccessary

Thanks

I've added a screenshot which should give a clearer idication of what i mean

I hope this makes what i want clear.

View > Customize View... > Group by > More (sort group a-z) > Album

Do not use "Album" under "None"

yes, i suggested that to steven before: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=51955.0
guess that it is not what he is after, probably because the sorting is alphabetic?

Unfortunately that doesn't do what i would like, and what's ,ore, i can't understand why this has not been addressed by the makers of media center as placing the artist after every album seems ridiculous, to me anyway.

It works fine for me:

The trick is to select None and then select Album under the sort groups (a..z).
