Title: Error trying to play flac files...
Post by: ReubenDiaz on December 22, 2008, 01:29:00 pm
I've just rebuilt my machine, freshly installed XP SP3, reinstalled MJ12 and now I find I can't play FLAC files - I get an error - "failed to open the file - the file may be corrupt or missing". I've tried in stalling flac codec from sourceforge, also tried re-installng MJ and the plug-in, but no success. Files play fine in Media Player.
Any clues?

Thanks,

R.

I don't think you need a plug-in.  Both MJ12 and MC12 come with the FLAC decoder you need.  Try reinstalling MJ12.

I'll move this to the right forum.

As I say, I already did that. The plug in I refer to is the one which MJ itself installs - are you saying I don't need that?

Is it possible the filenames in the Media Center database no longer point to the correct hard disk location?

Try dragging-and-dropping a file from Explorer into Media Center to play as a test.

Also, switch between Waveout, DirectSound, etc. in Options > Playback.

Matt,
Tried your suggestions, unfortunately without any success. When I reinstalled MJ12 from scratch I rebuilt the database from nothing, this just a day or two ago, so there should be no stale entries. Also noted someone else with a similar problem at http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=48088.0 - I see you and JimH contributed to that thread - at least I'm not alone with this.

Just fixed this by installing the version of the plug-in which tmarnik referred to in his post, which I referenced in my last message.
Got the plug-in here http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=161914&package_id=198323&release_id=516652.
I say fixed, looks like I'm working round a bug - anyone agree?
