Just to make it easy... here is the url for an image of the exercise,
http://www.crafthouse.net.au/mc13/screenshot.jpg
it just fits on my screen - under ˝Mb
There are 3 entries for the same album - a typical Rolling Stones entry
why are there 3? There should only be one! All variales are the same except "name" and "track number".
Do I need to tweak my settings somewhere? I've tried deleting them and bringing them back (MC13 won't let you do it - so you have to drag them in) but they default to the 3 item listing.
I can't work it out.
If you can help - I'd really dig it.
Help me JimH - I'm probably making an error or I have a lack of knowledge or something - Happy New Year. (When is MC 14 being introduced? - I'm a smart arse :-[ )
Cheers, Mal from Cessnock (Au)

Please use a subject that describes the problem.

Check the "Album Artist" column. Perhaps some of the files are specifying something different which would split them during album grouping.

i think it is meant to be a further explanation of the thread started here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=49921.0

Select all 20 files and remove the cover art, wait for tag changes to go through, then add it back.
If it's what I think it is, you have different images (although they look the same) assigned to tracks 1, 2-15 & 16-20 respectively.

That's the first thing I'd be checking, too...

Thank you. "Album/Artist" was the culprit.
This field would appear to automatically fill when ripping. I found multiple definitions in many of these fields.
I don't know if it was recommended but I went through my library and removed all "Artist/Album" entries.
JimH, sorry about the subject line breech - won't do it again :-[ I find it hard to describe this well enough so the members understand me - and my "challenge" created a positive outcome for me.

Glad you got it sorted :)
The "Album Artist" field can be very useful, so probably best not to simply dismiss it.
For instance, I have the Rihanna album Good Girl Gone Bad, which contains 1 song that is actually sung by Maroon 5 FEATURING Rihanna. In my "Artist" field that is how I have it listed. What does MC do with that album by default? Put's it in the Multiple Artists category. That's not what I want, so I change the Album Artist to Riahnna and MC sorts it correctly.
Also, with compilation albums the Album Artist field allows you to enter the track artist in the Artist field but still have the album group as multiple artists because the Album Artist should default to Multiple Artists.

I often ponder the "various/compilation" issue - I may adapt this technique, clearly more thorough than how I do it atm.
Currently I call the artist "various" and add artist detail to the "comment" and have it scroll under the MC banner.
Cheers and thanx, Mal

No worries ;)
If your compilation albums are ripped to the one folder i.e
\Music\XYZCompilation
MC will recognise this and automatically set the Album Artist to Multiple when you edit the Artist field.
Good Luck.
