Title: What site is like the old MP3.com ?
Post by: Bluey on January 09, 2009, 12:30:43 pm
I enjoyed the old MP3.com site before it shutdown and purchased by Cnet networks.  I really liked browsing all the individual acts which were truly bad or actually hidden gems of originality.  Also many artists put up lots of tracks for free (probably because MP3.com promised to pay money for playrates).

Take a look at http://www.jamendo.com/en/. They're the most like the old mp3.com in that all of their music is free. Artists post their music under the creative commons licence and downloads are available as either mp3 or ogg.

It does tend to be a little Euro-centric which might put off some red-staters but I for one found some good stuff there.

Have you actually tried the CNET Music Download site (the hacked up, bought out version of mp3.com)?
I definitely don't like the interface as much as the original mp3.com, but they (at least the last time I checked) use the same basic premise and made an attempt to get all of the artists who had postings on mp3.com to post music to the CNET site. I believe that all songs are free and there is still that huge mish-mash of awesome/drab/awful music. I would guess that there are few, if any, other sources with the same volume of songs available.

EDIT: Never mind, I actually went to take a quick look around the site and realized what you meant by your post. THAT SITE is no longer available. I too am saddened.

I don't get it. I made an account earlier today to post a legitimate response to this topic that I was actually elated to find, and it was deleted. Last time I checked, that's not how spam works. Do you guys delete every user's first post, or only if they're relevant to the topic at hand?

It looked like spam.  Please provide more details, without a link.

Do you mind me at least including the URL?

Would you explain why?  And what your relationship is to the site?

Thanks.

Why would I include the URL? I figured that was the point in telling people another "site like MP3.com." I'm the creator of the site.

Without posting a link, please describe what the site is and what it can do.

Nevermind. Your forum isn't visited often enough for me to continue arguing about this, and you're obviously still debating if I'm spam or not, which is absolutely ridiculous. I was simply helping out the original poster of this thread, and as the administrator of the forum, you think that would be in your best interest. I suppose that's a bad assumption these days. Take care.
