As the inauguration ceremonies and celebrations commence, I would like to salute our new President, Barack Obama.
Whatever your views, I hope you will join me in wishing him well, and in wishing the best for his family in these troubling times.
I hope the world will welcome this new spokesperson for our country.

As an Australian observing from afar (if there is such a thing in this internet age), I am proud to call this man the Leader of the Free World.
Good luck to him and his family and to the USA under his leadership.

Yea, I often forget there are users from all over the world. I must say Australia seems to be around #2 when it comes to likelihood of encountering them on forums and such.
I'm looking forward to what Obama will bring to the world.

I think the world is encouraged and hopeful. I know Canada is. I personally hope that he knows more about the depth of our problems than his words indicate. But I fear he does not.

i'm pretty scared of obama. i only hope that his power is limited (which i'm almost sure it will be... as no executive ever really get sdone what their real agenda is)
i fear his near-socialist views would send us into a true depression. barney frank & co. messed up enough screweing over the banking sector, which has terrible ripple effects... but taking the motivation away for people to improve their own situation could be the real nail in the coffin of my beloved country.
here's to hoping that doesn't happen.

Speaking from Quebec, Canada, and Since we (canadians) have the largest border in the world shared with you (americans), our faith is some kind linked and also wish great things to Obama. I watched the innauguration live at noon today and was filled of hope.

I watched many hours of the inauguration, commentaries, and balls today and was truly inspired. It was impressive how many people watched the ceremonies for the first time. I don't think I watched a moment of Bush's first term. I hardly even knew when the President was finally chosen let alone when whoever won got sworn in.

Although he wasn't my first choice, I do believe he's by far the best hope we have given the difficult times. Only thing I hold against him: appointing that Screaming Mimi to Sec/State.

I should probably wait until he's been in for a bit before I criticize. Off the top of my head though (and considering his party affiliation), he's just another big spending liberal (we all know the implications of this .... right?) who sports a nice tan. I also don't like his anti-gun stance. I do like that he's thrown out all the Bush scum ... AFAIK. He's also promised to make the government more "transparent" ... though I'm sure his definition of such is far left of mine. If he does do some things right and turns out NOT to be the socialist I think he is, then I'll rescind all this negative talk and shout "I Love You Obama!" like the media is now. So come on Obama ... show me
BTW: I voted Libertarian nationally, Republican locally though I dislike the elephants as much as the donkeys.

I stayed up and watched it in Australia. It began at 3:30 and finished at 5:30am after which I listenned to some Dylan.
Loved the benediction too... "and the black, won't have to give back. and yellow will mellow. and white will do what's right" etc etc (not strictly word perfect).
Wasn't he well received by the crowd?

What Rev Lowery said was ...

... the white part is still subject to interpretation. I think most have been embracing what is right for a long time. Just what does he mean? Decent and neutral speech until the inappropriate rhyming above.

I'm sorry, xen-uno. I really think the only way you can get upset about what Rev. Lowery said was if you have a [family friendly edit by JimH], like the crazy and uninformed fringe over at redstate. ::)
It was cute and good-hearted.
(And, fwiw, certainly everyone could stand to be a bit more mellow and remember to do what's right. Not everyone always does, even if many people do.)

Obama plans to post a new video EVERY Saturday. I just finished watching his video from today. I bet he'll post them, too! I am really interested in following along to gets some direct news from the President himself.

He scares me... He is the most un-vetted president we have had over the last 100 years. He is the most inexperienced president we've had over the last 100 years. He is the most liberal president we've had over the last 100 years. The best thing about him getting elected so far is it proves the US is not as bigoted as the press portrays us to be. Other than that I don't think he will be able to get much good done with the likes of Barney Frank, Harry Reed, and Nancy Pilosy pushing him far to the left (and that appears to be a pretty short walk from where he is already). I have a hunch he will do more damage than good. I hope I am wrong. Don't get your hopes too high because you might have farther to fall if you do. My advice is wait and see. Be optimistic but realistic. It is just too early to tell what kind of a president he will be.

I don't know--everything he has said publicly that I've seen has been very smart and seemingly beneficial to me and much of the public.

As someone who considers myself to be (economically at least) right wing, I can still still the immense value that a good dose of inspiration can do. That is what he has done so far. It may not be a policy or a new legislation but there are many millions of people all around the world who got out of bed on 20/01 and felt a couple of inches taller. That HAS to be a good thing, not just for the warm and fuzzy's but for morale and as a by-product productivity and therefore the economy.
Yes, he's a leftie but the world needs a leftie every now and then. They're the dreamers, the idealists, the big thinkers, the inspirers, the builders of nations.

The left doesn't have a monopoly on those qualities. The Great Comunicator himself, Pres. Ronald Reagan did the same as a concervative. I agree we need a booster shot of good feelings every now and then but good feelings plus $2.50 will buy you a cup of coffee and not much more.

I agree re your comments about Reagan, but the impression I have of Reagan wasn't exactly one of a hard line right winger. More of a centrist. It's only an impression though. I was ~6 months old when he was innaugurated ;D
Like I say, I'm a right wing economist, so can't see how or where all the money for these stimulus packages is going to come from, nor can I see how you guys are ever going to be able to pay it back. That concerns me no end - that money has to come from somewhere. If not from taxes (which the republicans STILL want to lower, meaning LESS revenue base) then from where?

Tell ya what... This is a discussion that I would love to have but reality I was rather surprised when I saw this thread on this web site in the first place. I will bow out of any more political discussion for the common good of music which this web page is meant for. Regardless, this is a great country. 8)

I visit this forum very much. I don't visit any other forms religiously. I don't know about other users here but because of this, I like to discuss a lot of key topics here, regardless if they are related to MC. For one thing, I recognize a lot of the users and it's fun to chime in and ask for advice, etc.

I think the point was more that the discussion was getting off topic - from "Good luck, Mr. Obama" to a "political" one.
I agree that one has a place here and the other doesn't.

I can see how a thread about your iPod not working turning into a theater view discussion would be off topic but call me crazy, I gotta say that Good luck, Mr. Obama would inevitably turn into: nice job on such and such policy! As crazy as it sounds, I'm going to say Obama is political to some extent.
