I have been having a problem where the windows taskbar pops up every time I play a video, stealing focus from MC and just being generally distracting.
This weekend an updated Coreavc was released and it seems to have solved the problem. It seems that it was coreavc that was being naughty. If you turn off the "Tray notification" in coreavc's options now, you should be ok. I have only tested this briefly, but in the few different videos I tried MC stayed in Big screen mode and kept foucus.
Just a note for other users who had the same problem.

Indeed the tray icon of some filter can do this or steal focus from mc so you can navigate anymore in theaterview. An example of the latter is directvobsub on my htpc.
