Title: Guarding the Chicken House
Post by: JimH on April 09, 2009, 06:26:24 pm
When my kids were young, I used to read them the Tomten stories (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=astrid+lingren+tomten) by Astrid Lindgren.  He's a little creature, half gnome, half Santa Claus, who guards the farm yards in Sweden, apparently.  One of the stories is about him protecting the chicken house from The Fox.  The Tomten finds a little porridge to keep the fox from eating the chickens.  In Sweden, this seems to work.

Tonight, when I stood up from my desk, I saw Mr. Fox trot by below my window.  Ten seconds later, I got his picture, but he was almost gone.  This is all I could get and it's zoomed in:

A Great Blue Heron comes several times daily attempting to eat our Koi and Goldfish.  This bird is about 3' tall.

One adult and one juvenile have come to visit today.
