I've been using the media player for about six months now with very few problems. However, I woke up this morning with a problem I've never encountered before. When trying to play an album, I get this message:
"Media Centered encountered errors while trying to play the last several files.
Error Details:
Playback could not be started on the output 'Direct Sound' using the format '44100 Hz, 16 Bits Per Sample, 2 Channels'."
When I went to bed last night everything was fine. Nothing happened between then and now, and now I can't play any albums.
Any idea what happened?
Edit: It's not just Media Center. I tried seeing if the tracks would play on WMP, but get the message that it cannot play the file because there's a problem with my sound device. I have no idea what any of this means.

Correction: I just remembered I had to install RealPlayer last night. I cleared out the media library and am re-importing tracks tot he player. When I started, RealPlayer wanted my attention for some sort of update. Could this be the problem?
Edit: nevermind, that didn't solve the problem. Still getting the error

In options, try switching playback between Direct Sound and Wave Out.

That didn't work.

Hover over a file in MC. Check the location. Does the file exist at that location?
-
Yes, everything is where it should be.
-
What type of file? MP3?

I think I fixed it. I had a folder called "Music" inside the main music folder. I moved all of my mp3's into a new folder called Music 2 and deleted the original "Music" folder. Cleared the library and re-imported, now it's working fine.
