i have a hard drive full of movies, ive imported them all to MC13, yet when i play one, the file opens in the playing now area over and over until i close MC. it does not play the video, just has dozens and dozens of them in the playing now area.
whats up?
-
What do you mean by "opening in Playing Now area"?
From which view do you try to start playing a video?
What format are these videos in? Have you installed DirectShow filters that can handle these files?
-
they are avi or divx videos. they've played in MC before. The playing now pane where is shows all the files playing now, it opens in there every second. so after about a minute there are 60 of the same file opening and will not stop reopening until i close mc. other videos work, just not these.

anyone? this really is making mad because i bought a lot of cable to hook my computer up to my laptop and i cant play videos off my drive. more specifics.
its a 500gb external hard drive.
it was plugged up to a ps3 and played the videos off that.
now that i plugged it back to my laptop it keeps opening in the playing now pane over and over and will not play.
the videos will play in windows media player.
whats up?

Do you have divx software installed? You don't need it unless you encode.
You might read about DirectShow in our wiki (link above).
-
not that i know of. it works in windows media player.
i have no clue what im looking for in that wiki.
so i figured out that if i take the file off the hard drive and play it off my laptop it works. it wont play off the external for some reason.

My guess is your File Types area is setup wrong.
Go to options, File Types. Scroll down to the bottom and find AVI Video and DIVX Video and make sure they are set to Automatic.
If it were set to External Program Default, and MC in turn was the default player, then I'd imagine it might start a loop like you're experiencing.
If Automatic doesn't work, then try JRiver Video Engine.
Also as mentioned above your filters might be out. Do a search for CCCP, download and install it.

For the casual user I believe that wiki page is some what akin to 'a quick guide to Nuclear Physics'

it works fine now. it was something with that movies folder they were all in. the ps3 might of changed something about it because i pulled them out of that folder and put them in a new one and they work fine.
