Title: Playing MKV Video files
Post by: Bluesman on May 27, 2009, 09:15:45 am
Just trying out MC 13, and wondering if it will play the above? Only way I seem to be able to do it is by setting the link to an external program. Are there other settings I need to look at, did a search but didn't come up with much. Any help appreciated.

MKV is a container format.  You may need DirectShow filters.  Please read about DirectShow and about CCCP in our wiki (link above).

As Jim said, CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/) would probably fix the problem. CCCP is a free DirectShow filter pack. It adds support for the most popular video formats.

If your computer is not the very latest and you want to play high defination H.264/MPEG-4 AVC files you could also consider purchasing the CoreAVC (http://www.coreavc.com/) decoding filter. It doesn't provide better quality, but usually it can decode files using less CPU than the other available codecs.
