Title: New Sound Card?
Post by: BrandonM on June 26, 2009, 08:18:46 am
We have a regular dell pc, and we have the sound card that came with the computer, but every time we plug in a microphone (in the jack behind the computer) and try to say something with the microphone, nothing happens at all. (we have 2 microphones) The microphones work fine with my brothers laptop and they have been working fine until one day they just stopped working.

Then randomly about a month after the microphone problem, the right speaker just stopped working, and we're not sure if we need a new sound card or if we have defective speakers and a microphone. They both have worked fine and the cords all go to the back of the right speaker, and then to the left speaker so I'm not sure what the problem is. it says both the speakers and the microphone are working properly, so we all have no idea what's wrong.

Please help!

Belated but maybe still of some use: if you have an ipod or any other device with a headphone socketconnect speakers with this headphone output (at low volume at start) and see if that works fine. this way you will find out if that's speakers or the sound chip that is bad.  If that's the chip then there are plenty of inexpensive USB sound cards around.
Hope this helps.
