Title: Tagging inconsistencies
Post by: Agonostis on July 10, 2002, 07:48:47 pm
When I make changes to tags in MJ, they do not seem to appear outside of MJ.  MJ has completely replaced MusicMatch for my media needs, and I do most of my tag work in it as well, but there are still some things that Tag & Rename does better, so I still use it occassionally.  Today I noticed that some notes I had put in the "Comment" field did not appear in T&R.  I only use ID3v2 tags, if that can help pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for any advice.

Robert

There are several versions of ID3 tags, and ID3v2 tags are a special problem.  In build 8.0.323, we switched to the latest library, just released.  This may make a difference for you.

Thanks for the info; the version of T&R I use works on ID3v2.3 tags, and your latest build seems to use the just released v2.4 library.

If only Softpointer were as quick to update as you guys...

Thanks again,

Robert

Agonostis

ID3v2.4 Specs have been out for about 1 1\2 years. but it causes problems with older ID3v2.3 editors so i think it was slow to catch on.

I think Helum tag editor was one of the first to use it. they had to add a id3v2.3 compatable mode due to the problems in the tag format.

MP3 tagging is a mess.  It'd be a lot nicer if the people that made the specs also made an open-source tagging library that everyone could share.  The huge gap between specification and implementation is a pain.  Grrrr....

Matt

well you always can use my Idea For ID3v1.2 add 128bytes in front of the ID3v1.1 tag to extend the tag info.

Hehe King.

It should either be:

1) make the tag any format but provide a free library to work with them

2) only make the tag specs, but make them simple enough so it isn't 10,000's of lines of code to work with them

Unfortunately, we have

3) only make the tag specs, and make them so complicated that it takes 10'000's of lines of code to work with them

Oh well...
