Title: How do I Remove Duplicate Image Thumbnails?

I do not know when/how this happened. MC shows 2 image thumbnails for hundreds of my photos. The thumbnails are identical (duplicates) and each pair links to one image file on the harddrive. How can I delete one of the thumbnails (i.e. remove a duplicate photo from the library?).
