Title: Firefox 3.5 - is it just me?
Post by: benn600 on August 24, 2009, 11:49:08 am
I am running the latest Firefox 3.5 and for some reason, it just will not remember me here at Interact.  Does it reset the session upon restarting the browser?  Does anyone else notice this problem?  I never had trouble with version 3.0 before.  I even created a new profile with default settings and it still does it.

This is seriously annoying me.  I clear cookies and such for web dev. purposes so I keep thinking it was my fault but when I actually test it ....  very annoying.

No joke.  I started a new profile.  If I go to this forum and login, upon closing Firefox and starting it up again, I have to re-login!  I have the same, latest 3.5, on my Mac (KVM) and it doesn't do this.  I'll look through the settings.

You could try removing the cookies for yabb.jriver.com then logging in again. If you are removing those automatically every time you run the browser you'll have to login every time you restart the browser.

I just cleared my cookies.  After restarting and logging in, I see the session cookie from this forum.  After restarting Firefox, the cookie is still there (just that one) and not logged in... :(

This is getting crazy.

Just wondering if you ever figured it out. Any update?

Nope, no change.  I just started my computer and had to re-login to this forum for this post.  I'll dig around for a solution when I get a chance.  Thanks though.

Try logging in, and then actually logging out of the forum, quit firefox, and then relaunch and login.  See if that helps.  Also check that you've not told firefox to avoid remembering the password.

I will be formatting to upgrade to Windows 7 soon so it isn't a big deal.  I'll just hope that fixes it.

I've not had that problem.  Sounds very much like a cookie problem to me...

I'm currently having the opposite problem with firefox 3.5 and facebook.

Recently (the past week or so), it almost always logs me in automatically, despite me never checking 'Remember Me' on logon.

3.5 is not long for this world.  FF/Mozilla have said that they want 3.5 retired as soon as possible.

3.6 is in beta as of yesterday morning.

And in the meantime, Opera is at 10.10 beta 1.  What you need memory and cpu hogging plugins to do with FF, Opera does out of the box.

I'm sorry... I keep trying Opera, wanting to like it, but I can't... It is just way to clunky.  I don't really know how to describe it other than that... I find it FAR slower than the lightweight set of add-ons that I actually USE in Firefox.  Sure, if you try to replicate every single feature of Opera in Firefox with Add-Ons, then you can certainly succeed in slowing it down to a crawl.  But I don't need all of that stuff.  Opera just has way too much crud that I do not need, and won't ever need (like a Mail client, what is this, Netscape Communicator?)...  Built-in Bittorrent?  No thanks, that's why I have uTorrent.  That, and Opera 9.x had lots of problems with long-term use and the Flash plugin (this may have been fixed in 10, but I haven't seen many reports one way or the other).

And, on top of it, while they build things into the browser that you might not need, there no extension support at all.  So, if I'm not just completely tickled-pink with what Opera deigns to give me, I can't get any third-party plugins to do the rest.  If I can't put Adblock Plus and Xmarks (or something similar with automatic updates) on my browser, I'm absolutely, positively not interested.

That and I have been repeatedly extremely displeased with the company's corporate behavior.  I think that Mozilla has proved that you can make a dent in the IE market share without resorting to lawsuits.  And, when the EU made the reasoned choice to force Microsoft to add the browser ballot box on Windows 7 (which was a good idea), Opera's CEO still whined... I'm sorry... Learn to compete and shut up.

I agree with glynor. I think the trap people fall into (I did the same thing) is they add all kinds of plug-ins that they don't really need. Then they complain that it is too slow. If you limit it to the plug-ins you really need it works just fine.
