Title: Asus P5Q-EM connect to old TV
Post by: jonny162 on August 31, 2009, 08:19:09 am
Hi,

I have an old TV with simple AV input and would like to connect my new HTPC to it to play DVD's, youtube etc. via MC14.

I am using an Asus P5Q-EM motherboard with no GPU or TV card right now.

Does anyone know what kind of cables I could use or is my TV just too old and crappy for my awesome new HTPC?

Thanks!

When you say you have no GPU does that mean no video card or onboard video at all?
If so, do you have any type of video-out port?

I have a P5Q and my Video Card has HDMI out, but has no S-Video. It
does not work with my older TV either, but is all ready for a new flat hi-def TV.

I have not found any type of converter to allow use of HDMI-out or VGA-out into S-Video.

In the meantime I am using my older Video Card which has S-Video for TV-out until I get a newer TV.

I meant no additional GPU other than the onboard one which provides HDMI, DVI and RGB.

Would I need an older GPU card to provide composite output or would a TV card do that and allow me to output the screen to my TV as well?

Thanks
