Hello everyone,
After getting no luck with ASIO drivers for my external yellowtec PUC2 soundcard I am trying to switch to WASAPI. However after enabling that in the output mode when I try to play an audio file (WAV or FLAC) I keep on getting the error mentioned above and MC is complaining that it can't find Directshow filter.
I have already gone through FAQs and Wiki on the forum and have installed AC3 filter and file. I also tried CCCP but nothing seems to work. It seems like the MC can't make the connection to the filter.
I have also gone in tools > options > file types and tried both JRiver audio playback methods (changing from automatic) but still no luck. I have also tried Video options in playback tab although not sure if they would help anything.
With Direct Sound it seems to work fine.
I am using Vista 32-bit with SP-2.
Please help as I am running short of options :(
Thanks

WASAPI shouldn't need DirectShow. Check Tools/Options/Filetype. Playback should be "Automatic".
Make sure you don't have other filetypes in the list you're trying to play.
Make sure you don't have another player using WASAPI in "exclusive" mode.

I put the playback to the default setting of automatic and I still receive the same error message.
I tried with just one wav file in the play list and it still does not work.
I only had WASAPI enabled in FOOBAR but I have put it back to DS. Is it possible the Windows Media Player somehow may have it enabled. I ask because I did not configure it but with MS products you never know if they have some "automatic connection"

Playing to the wrong sound device?
-
In the output mode settings there is only one device (PUC2) which is the right one for my soundcard other than default.

Ok made some progress. I needed to uncheck the "exclusive control" setting and also needed to hard code the bits to 24 with 48000 and channel to 2 in MC output format and now it works :)
Don't know why it would cause an issue though as there is no other application at least I am aware of using the soundcard.
BTW for "pops and clicks" can one play with buffering? Is there any recommendations on that one?
Also ASIO sounded a bit smoother compared to WASAPI. Anyone else had the same feeling playing between the two with the same sound card or DAC?
Thanks,
-R

I wonder if this might help:
