Title: Record Only New Programs For Subscription
Post by: cncb on September 11, 2009, 12:58:30 pm
Does MC have access to new/rerun data for programs in the guide?  If so, will it be possible to set up subscriptions to only record new episodes?

Will this ever be possible?  I also would like the option to "Keep N Number of recordings" for a subscription.  This is important for kids programs where I record the same program each day but only want 1 or 2 to be in the library at a time (automatically delete the old ones when a new one is recorded).

This option is already available when configuring a television subscription.

Thanks - I must have missed it in the release/change notes.

Recording just new programs per subscription would still be nice to have.

How does one currently manage recordings such that it doesn't get out of hand (in terms of number of recordings) if all reruns are being recorded?  Does MC know that an episode has been watched or already recorded and then not record it again?

Right now, it's a manual process to delete reruns.

This is a tricky problem because the rerun flag in the programming guide doesn't mean I've seen the program.  If every program had a GUID this problem would be easy, but no such luck.

Do you have any advice?

I would be fine with it only recording new programs (that aren't marked as a rerun) even if I haven't seen an old episode before.  Can a show be identified by Subscription Name and Episode Number?  If so, could you maintain in the database which episode numbers have been recorded already?  Then you could possibly have three recording options: New, All, All Unrecorded.

Is this being considered for MC15?
