Title: JaeRoMC
Post by: danrien on September 18, 2009, 07:23:30 pm
All,

I was a little annoyed (not that I don't love Noire) with MC not matching with my new Windows 7 install - so I made a new skin, and called it JaeRoMC (get it? hehe).  It wasn't too hard to make, luckily a good amount of the Noire UI is close to the windows UI (such as the lists), so I didn't modify those.  Also, some of the play buttons may not be as you expect (as they are in WMP for win7), but I personally prefer this.  Also, some sliders and such didn't get modified.  Anyone is, of course, free to modify my work as they see fit (since I probably should be working on other things - like graduating from college....hehe).  Just gimme credit if you modify the skin.  :P

Anyways, heres a screenshot:

I don't know how to attach stuff, so download the zip here (I'll be submitting to JR shortly): http://www.devedcomputers.com/MediaCenterAddOns/JaeRoMC.zip (http://www.devedcomputers.com/JaeRoMC.zip)

Update:
Just to let everyone know, I've updated this again, with new volume and play controls!  I will be resubmitting in a week or so to the official page to give it some good testing and see if I want to add more stuff - until then download the newest version from the link above.

Update 2:
Last Version out.  Not sure if I'm going to do much after this, but hopefully I can.  New Screenshots and version uploaded.  Nice changes to the play buttons and progress bar made.

Alright, I had to add some new borders and stuff to the DSP, shuffle, etc. buttons.  Consider this version 1.01.  It should be on my website shortly, you can use the link above to get it.

I suppose I should post down here so everyone knows I've added stuff to this post.  Anyways, to summarize the OT, skin has new play buttons, volume buttons, and a new slider button.

hm, bright & white...

I just took a quick look at it, but I'd say, it still needs some polish...

Just my two cents about this.

Just to let everyone know, I've changed the scroll handles to be more vista-ish, complete with 3 lines with drop shadows!  Check it out!

@StFeder, thanks for the feedback.

1.  The volume issue has been fixed.  It was a bug that occurred with the bigger action buttons
2-5.  These buttons and lines are present.  Perhaps the contrast on your monitor is too low?  They are specifically in the package, so you may be having a hard time seeing them.  I would love to change the colors on them to make them more visible, but I'm currently trying to think of how best to do that (which color would be best).
6. The play control buttons do fade, but the effect is subtle.  I personally didn't like it when it was overstated.  Once again, a higher contrast setting on your monitor may make this effect noticeable.
7.  The position slider thing was fixed a little while ago.

Once again, thanks for the feedback.  To fix the volume control issue, download the new zip file!

@StFeder, I've hopefully also now taken care of the difficulty in seeing the mute, dsp, shuffle, etc. buttons by giving them a nice outline.  Please let me know if they still aren't visible.

Thanks,
danrien

I've also now added some nice shading  :o to the control buttons.

Yes, looks better now :) I'm not sure, but I feel as the skin looks a bit different for me from the screenshot you postet. This is what it looks like for me:

Looks as it is brighter for me than it is in your screenshot, doesn't it? The color gradient at the playerbar is completly missing ...  ? Because of this I couldn't see the DSP etc. buttons in your previous version! Are you using MC14 as well?

I opened the png-files to see the hover effect of the playback buttons. I can see them there :)

Two things left in my eyes:
The dividing line between left tree pane and right content window is to dark in my eyes. Should be a grey matching the line under the playback area... Same point for the line dividing the paneedit area from content.
Checkboxes are still in noire layout (black). Doesn't match your white skin very well  ;)

Yes yours looks quite different  ;D.  Do you have the brightness/contrast turned up in the Skin Effects by chance?

I've updated it, yet again.  This time, the 'playing now' status bar search bar, and tree got the Win7 treatment.  As always, let me know of any issues, suggestions, or praise ;) you have.

1. Slimview support
2. Fullscreen support

Also, just released JaeRoViz.  See here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=54256.0).

Posted 2.0a on my site.  Will submit it to bob and put up screenies when I'm under a little less school stress (luckily, skinning releases my stress for some weird reason) - until then enjoy it from here!
