Title: Speechwriter and Columnist, William Safire, dies at age 79

His life encompassed some history that will bring back memories for some.

This was a bit of an unexpected  shock and will miss his column 'On language', he's irreplaceable  :(

You should check out his obit (http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2009/09/27/obituaries/0927-SAFIRE_index.html) in the nytimes as that was his homebase.
