Is it possible to have MC read the metadata from My Movies when it is placed in the top folder (movie name folder) instead of the Video TS folder? My movies wants to automatically store the data here and I would actually prefer that to having all those files added to my video ts folder. As of right now if I want to burn a copy of a movie for the kids, I have to remember to exclude the My Movies data.
-
No, it does not currently work like that. I might be able to make it a little more flexible by going to the parent folder of VIDEO_TS.
-
That's actually what I was wanting, I just worded the request very poorly. That would be all it would take to solve my problem. Before I spend the next several days tagging movies, would this be something that might be done soon? That would be a huge time saver.

This is NOT how My Movies is handling it for me! It places the metadata in the VIDEO_TS folder. Maybe it's configurable? In any case, hopefully any changes to MC will not break this current behaviour!!

My Movies places it in the Video TS folder if that is the folder you pick for the online folder. I don't want all that stuff in my Video TS folder and if I pick its parent folder the metadata ends up in the parent. The problem is that MC doesn't recognize it then.

Ok, now I'm with you. Like I said though, the best solution would be for MC to check both locations otherwise it breaks all my hard work :-)

Has anything been done in this regard? I have a fresh install on my main box and on my WHS and I want this to be as clean as possible. If you set MM to auto scan the video folders the metadata ends up in the parent folder of the video_ts folder.

MC will be more flexible in the regard, in build 98 or higher, when it comes out.
When importing a ripped DVD, or when executing "Update Library (from tags)", MC will look for metadata files in the following order:
1. JRSidecar;
2. mymovies.xml file in VIDEO_TS folder;
3. mymovies.xml file in the parent folder of VIDEO_TS.

And DVD ISO's. Could this not be extended to support the import of mymovies xml's stored within each ISO folder when importing ISO images?

I just replied to you in another thread. One problem with iso files is that they are imported as data, instead of video.

The only problem I am having now is that MC14 is not picking up the cover art from the My Movies cover art file. What am I doing wrong? If I check "get cover art" in auto-import, it is finding some other art that is lower quality and not always the right cover. If I uncheck the option it finds no cover art whatsoever. Is there a setting that will have it pick up the My Movies cover art that is stored in the movie directory?
-
Can anybody please help me with this?

If you're using Folder.jpg for your coverart, it will work. Check the MC options to make sure.

I do have a Folder.jpg in the folder, but it isn't being picked up. That is my issue. I thought the setting in MC for where to store the cover art was simply where it stores file, not where it looks for them. Is this incorrect?

I tried changing the setting to storing the coverart as a folder.jpg withing MC14 and that didn't seem to help. I'm stumped. If anybody knows what I am doing wrong please help. I have tried everything and honestly I have know idea where it is even getting the cover art that it is finding. It's nowhere in the metadata or the folder.

What's the video file type? The cover art might be stored inside the file...
Delete the existing cover art you have for the video (right click and choose cover art > remove cover art).
Under tools > options > file location > cover art make sure you have "In the same folder as the file (as folder.jpg)" ticked.
Right click the file again and choose cover art > Quick find in file / cover art directory

They are DVD rips in video_ts folders. I did exactly as you said, removed cover art, changed setting to in the same folder as folder.jpg, quick find in file/cover art directory.
I still got the same low quality images that are not the images that are in the folder as folder.jpg. This is truly driving me crazy. Where are these images even coming from? Should I have "get cover art" in auto-import on or off?

Strange! they're probably getting downloaded automatically. Yes, disable the get cover art option. Also as a test, delete the file from your library, delete any mc generated sidecar files in the movie folder (just in case the dodgy cover art is reference in there) and import the primary ifo file manually. Oh and the folder.jpg needs to be in the video ts folder along with the mymovies XML.
-
OK, I deleted the files in MC14, turned off get cover art and build thumbnails, then deleted the the old cover art directory and thumbnail directory. I then went through each movie folder and deleted all folder.jpg and JRSideCar files. I manually put the correct cover art in the folder as folder.jpg and reimported. Now I have no cover art at all so at least the bad art is gone. It seems that MC14 isn't seeing the folder.jpg in the parent folder of the video_ts folder (where MyMovies puts it). It is finding the Mymovies metadata just not the folder.jpg. Could this possibly be fixed in an upcoming build?

I separated this out from the last post so it wouldn't get lost.

Is this possible?

I will look into this. If a problem is found, it will be fixed.

Thanks! I just feel that if MC gets the metadata from the default MyMovies file location, then it should be able to pull the cover art in too.

Any progress on this yet?

I just wanted to ask again if this had been looked at. It would go a long way into automating my dvd ripping.

I will look at this next week.

I just wanted to say thank you for fixing this....it has saved me a lot of time.
