I recently bought the IPOD 160Gig classic. I had my old IPOD all set up to convert all my ape files to MP3 using the VBR encoding under "normal" quality.
I had these files Cached to a folder I created on my D drive.
On my first sync with the new IPOD I changed this setting to "extreme" because I wanted the best possible sound.
I also created a new Cache directory for this IPOD.
I'm pretty sure MC used the files I already had in the first Cache to add to the new IPOD.
I was watching as it synced and it was not encoding the ape files but rather transferring files.
It also only took about 40 minutes for my whole library when it had taken hours before with my other IPOD.
Also the new Cache just has a few CD's in it - the ones I had added since my last sync.
Does MC automatically retrieve the file from an old Cache? How can I assure that I get the extreme quality on my new IPOD?
Thanks
Tony

If you want them re-encoded at a higher quality, then I'd bet you need to open up the portable in the tree and select all the tracks and choose delete. Then resync with the new settings after it's wiped.
