Title: It's cranking away at my C: drive?
Post by: drosoph on October 23, 2009, 05:23:32 pm
I'm using 14.0.89 and when I run MC for a few minutes, my HDD starts cranking away.  Like it's doing an auto-import in the background.  I have the box for run in background UN-Checked ... as well as the other boxes under that option.

Is there some other option that is causing the app to tax my HDD?

It could be thumbnailing or audio analysis or cover art.

Why would it be doing ANY of those tasks when I have then UN-Checked?

It wouldn't do background stuff if auto-import is off.

But it does build thumbnails if you look at a list that needs them.

You could use logging to see exactly what's happening.  Feel free to email me a log that shows high disk activity. (matt at jriver dot com)

Thanks.

If I force it to build thumbnails just once, would it no longer try to build them for the lists?

If I understand your question, the answer is yes.  Build them all at once.  That's what I do whenever I do a fresh import of all my files.
