Title: Media keys on Windows 7 x64
Post by: eso on October 26, 2009, 01:08:44 pm
I have just switched from Vista (32 bit) to the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (new installation). On W7 the media keys only work if the MC window has the focus, but not if it runs in the background. There's no other media application running which could steal the key presses. For the Windows media player the keys also work if it's running in the background.

Try switching which volume control MC uses.

Under General/Advanced, try switching Media Key mode.

We see the same thing on a machine here.

We're investigating.

I'm not seeing this here, eso.  What kind of keyboard are you using?  Does it happen on all the media keys?

It's a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard which has a single play/pause key. There are no other playback control keys, only volume control (which works without problems as does the play key with the Windows Media Player). I'm using the latest version of the IntelliType driver software (7.0). On Vista the playback key worked without problems with MC running in the background.

Windows 7 64

Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard

I cannot pause or change tracks unless It's open and focused on.
Any solutions??

fishingkid, do you also have the Intellitype software installed?

I'm using a Logitech keyboard here without Setpoint, and the media keys are working fine regardless of focus.

Ditto, Logitech, sans setpoint.

Hey there,

I'll queue up for a solution as well... MC14 on a Windows 7 x64 machine with MS Wireless Keyboard v2.0 and Intellitype Pro installed...

I noticed that MC doesn't show as an option in the standard programs list - maybe that's why Win7 still thinks that WMP is the standard media player although the file types are handled by media per default.

It used to work fine in Vista.  ?

Any solution will be greatly appreciated!

Regards from wet Northern Germany
Matt

Edit: I just upgraded to the latest MC 14.0.96 but nothing changed...

Put me down too.  Just got a MS Natural Ergonomic KB 4000 for Christmas and one of the first things I did was to try it out on Media Center (see my devotion? ;) )- same problem.  Would love an update on this and a possible solution/workaround.

Solution: Don't buy Microsoft products. hehe.... ;D

But really, try uninstalling custom drivers and/or any other related software, perhaps with just generic keyboard drivers and the like they will work, since some of the codes that get sent out by those keys are pretty standard these days (although try it with the caveat that Microsoft isn't particularly well known for following standards).

I recently installed Windows 7 and IntelliType Pro 7.1 on two computers with Microsoft keyboards. None of the media keys work for me with MC14 (14.0.131). Was a solution ever found for this problem?

I just rolled back to Vista 64 SP2 (from Windows 7) with an MS Wireless Comfort 4000 and IntelliType 7.1 and my keys suddenly do not work either.

This keyboard worked perfectly in Vista 32bit SP2 with the same keyboard and Intellitype 7.0....

Which version of Intellitype are you running? And what OS?  My fix in the previous post was for Vista specifically....not Win 7

Cheers!

I am using Windows 7 X64 and I have the same problem, when in a fullscreen game/program the next/pause/previous/stop buttons do not work either. Only in normal windows and if J River is open. I've selected all the different options in the menu in J River but none helped it. I am using Media Center 14 and keyboard is a Logitech G19.
