Running MC14 on Win 7 x64, I find that when I start MC it will unmute my system if I have it muted. There are times when I'd like to start a video without having sound.
I thought it might be a setting in Options - Startup, but I didn't see anything there that would command this to happen. Optimize volume for best playback was checked and Set Vol to 80% was unchecked. I unchecked both but MC still changed my mute status.
Is there a way around this behavior?

No. There isn't. The reason is that, in our opinion, it is confusing to the average user if there is no sound.

I feel there should at least be an option there. I find it presumptuous for it to override my system settings.

I had not seen that thread before. It seems like quite a few are unhappy about this behavior. I don't understand JRiver's argument of needed simplicity when all is needed is to have an option button with Unmute set as default. Best of both worlds; novices get their system unmuted and power users can control their own system.

But, here's what I don't get. Do you shut ever shut down MC? If it's always running there is no problem, and I see no reason not to have it always running.
In my case I always put my computer in S3 sleep, so MC is truly always running. But even if you don't, do you start and exit MC during your same up-time session?
