Hi,
I've searched the forum but have not found a satisfactory answer to my issue. When I play Media Center version 14 and then quit, it slowly cycles a count down for a various number of files, with a message "Saving Tag Changes (XX remaining)". It takes a long time and I've tried to setup the options to not allow this.
I do not have Volume Leveling or Replay Gain selected, I do not have "Analyze Audio" selected, and I do not have "Update for External Changes" selected.
My music files live on a mapped network drive.
What is causing this behavior? What tag changes is Media Center making? How do I stop Media Center from making these tag changes? Is Media Center getting cover art from the Internet and saving it in the metadata tags?
Thank you,
Alan

Cover art lookup is an option for auto-import.
Logging can be enabled under MC Help. You can read the logs to try to find out more.

"Saving Tag Changes" will occur when you make any changes to the metadata associated with your audio or video files, including name, artist, keywords, last played, etc...
All of the attributes (Replay Gain, Volume leveling, etc) do not factor in MC trying to save the tag changes to your media files.

Go to Tools > Options > General and uncheck "update tags when file info changes".
That's what I did, and it did the trick.
Now I just have to remember to update all my files with the library tags every once in a while during the night when I'm not using the computer.

The tag changes could just be playcount and last played. If this happens a lot, it sounds like your network is AWFUL slow. Are you still on a 100m LAN or Wireless?
(What Lise suggested will fix it, but then your file tags will get out of sync.)
