Title: CPU usage and background tasks
Post by: CadErik on December 10, 2009, 10:15:43 am
For some reasons (I suspect auto import tasks), the CPU usage of MC starts to use all the CPUs of my computer after a little while.
I know I checked the "analyse audio" and "build thumbnails" in the auto import and I suspect they consume the CPU. However, is there any way to know what background tasks are going on?

I have the same experience.

MC's back ground tasks can make the UI jerky and sometimes completely unresponsive for many seconds.  It's particularly noticable when your music is on network storage (eg NAS) and your Laptop is running wirelessly.

I have found that turning off "Allow automatic CD lookup / submission", "Get Cover Art",  "Build thumbnails", and "Run auto import in background" improves things slightly.

Checking the log to diagnose, it seems access to network music files and YABB over a wireless connection can temporarily stall MC, causing the UI to stutter.  Not ideal.
