Thought others might want to know this, as I'm pretty darn excited. CoreAVC 2.0 finally came out today and is available on their website for a special intro price of $9.95 through December 26th.
Just a smattering of the changes in the new version:
- Windows 7 Support
- 64-bit support
- New version of Haali included which also officially supports Win7 64-bit
- Dramatic improvements to CUDA support
- Dramatic speed and stability improvements, using all manner of different CPU extensions
- Support for 4k+ resolutions (4096×4096)
- Support for multithreading up to 16 CPU cores

$4.95 upgrade for existing v1.9 license holders (at least mine was).

OK glynor, only because you rave about it SO much I've purchased it to see how it performs.
Let's face it $9.95 isn't exactly going to break the bank :)

EDIT: I'm pleased to announce that, for the first time, my P4 3.2Ghz machine (yes I kow it's old!) with it's Nvidia 8500GT video card can play my MKV ripped Blu-ray movies without stuttered video.... so the "investment" was worth it.

The last 10 pages or so of the CoreAVC thread on Doom9 would've provided a more complete picture of the reaction to this release. It's a good product. But it's too little too late.
On an underpowered system these days I seek DXVA acceleration. On an overpowered system I still seek DXVA because it's so much more power efficient. 9 months in production... with Dark Shikari for the last few, coding assembler for them just to get it out the gate... If it's true that Albain is porting MPC-HC's DXVA to ffdshow, soon there'll be a software decoding solution with effects (read avs scripts) and DXVA filter all in one. The landscape is changing.

Would someone tell me how to make sure that MC will use the core decoder when playing video ?
thank you.

Tools, Options, File Types.
Select the file type (say .mkv) and change the setting from Automatic to Directshow, then select CoreAVC from the list of Filters.
Sorry, not near my MC machine to provide any screen shots, but I'm sure you'll find the options.

If you want to make the change systemwide on Win7, rather than just in MC, you can use this tool: http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_preferred_filter_tweaker.htm
