Title: QuickTime Player Warning
Post by: Nicholas T on December 25, 2009, 11:04:32 pm
Hi,

When I try to play a .m4p audio file from MC14 I purchased from iTunes years ago I get:

QuickTime Player Warning - Cannot determine the version of Apple QuickTime Player...Do you want to download and install the latest version of QuickTime player? .

When I open the same file(s) in QuickTime it plays eventually although when it does I get a mouse pointer is busy icon.

Actually, I'm peeved off that I had to resort to installing QuickTime in the first place.  I hate the hungry clunky beast along with it's big brother iTunes.  If only all software was made by you guys!!! :D

Is there another way to get these files to play?

Thanks,
Nick

m4p files use Apple's digital rights management, and thus can only be played in Quicktime or iTunes.

You can "upgrade" those songs on iTunes to unprotected versions for a fee (I believe it is $0.30 per track).  They also give you a much higher quality version as part of the deal.  Still isn't much of a bargain, but at least you can remove that dreck from them now.
