Title: Rip failed. Initialising rip ... Read track failed. Parameter is out of range
Post by: jong54 on December 26, 2009, 05:59:42 am
Windows 7 x64
CDs will rip OK to MP3 using Windows Media Player but I get the 'Read track failed. Parameter is out of range' error with
MediaCenter140118.

When trying to play the CD with MC14 it plays the first few bars and starts looping on the first track few bars and on the visible playlist moves to the next track at each 'loop'.

mp3's in my existing library play OK.

Is it similar to this problem?

Turning off the virus checker (TrendMicro Internet Security) solved it.

I don't really like posting on an old topic, but it seems appropriate since there didn't seem to be a definitive solution, just a suggestion.

I am running a fresh install of W7/64 and don't even have any antivirus software installed yet that may be interfering with JR (v.15.0.70).

Thank you in advance for you help.

Try the latest build.  It's at the top of the MC15 board.

Try slowing down the rip speed.

If that doesn't work, it's probably the drive or driver.

Also check the "weird problems" thread in my signature.

Installing 15.0.73 did not change anything.  When I click Rip, the status of the track is changed to "Ripping" but the drive does not spin up.  Clicking Rip again only causes the status to change to "Failed" and it moves on to the next track in the list.

When I click Play, the song begins to play and a few seconds into the track, it loops back to the beginning of the track.

Slowing down the drive speed did not change the outcome.

The drive seems a very unlikely candidate for he cause of the problem for a couple reasons.
1) I do not have problems ripping or playing cds using WMP.
2) I found that I am not the only person with this issue using MC.

Also, I could not find anything in your other forum using the search criteria "parameter is out of range".

Can you send me a log file?  Under Help / Logging, enable the "CD" event and checkmark "Output to a log file", start the CD rip, then after the failure do "Click to email log files" to:
johnt at jriver dot com  (replace "at" and "dot" with email punctuation).

Thanks.

The link to email the log file from the Help dialogue box only works if you have a mail client installed, which I do not.  You will need to tell me where the log file is stored and what it is called so that I can upload it from my Webmail applet.

Try the View option on the logging page.

Any Samsung drives?

For me the solution was running MC "as administrator" which you set on the MC shortcut (see shortcut properties).

Pulling up a zombie to say that it seems it's still a problem, but PDS' solution of running MC as administrator fixed it right away for me!
