No-one has mentioned or answered my posts on the "No DSP with streaming Windows Media" problem... Can anyone? I thought I should post it here because it might be a bug...

CDDB is working much better now.  Thanks!
I'll have to wait until I come across a new CD
that it can't find in the database to see if that
is working better.

You have to cap the folder name with a right bracket ( ] ) to signify that the field must end there.  The help file has more examples explaining the differences between quotes and brackets in searches.

Hope that helps...

Still getting dialogs that take 10-20 clicks of the button to get them to dismiss.

After installing 318, I tried a few CDDB lookups and when I got one that resulted in a "malformed message sent from server to client"  message (bad CD), it took 22 clicks of the OK button to get past it.  Tried it several times again using the "Update from CDDB" function and a single click did it each time but it was for the same CD so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Tried a "rename file from properties" requiring a directory change. Pressing "OK", then "Save" worked but I had to press the "Move file and update database" button 17 times to get it to take.   Completely repeatable.

Happens on 3 systems all with 3 different video cards and their latest drivers.  One of the system info's is below.

Remy,
Either you are doing something we don't ever do, or you have something going we don't have on all three machines.

Exactly what are you doing?  Step by step.  What CD, etc.

What do the three machines have in common?  Other music software, network config, firewall, proxy, etc.

King,
Good find.  Could be.

Remy,
Try uninstalling your firewall.  Disabling it is not enough.  Some firewalls still filter when disabled.

If King is right, try the Norton site (or the site of whatever firewall you use) to see what updates they have.

Don't worry about the "malformed..." message itself.  It happens on 1 CD out of 907 and I think it's just a bad CD.  It's Tangerine Dream/Permagon for future reference and the first track won't even rip.  I get the same dialog problem even if it's a "not found" message.

I just completely cleaned out MJ from my server (the one I've been testing all the betas with) including cleaning both the "J River" and "CDDB" registry entries and the "J River" directory.  Then I installed 318 and imported my license and added my library back in.  I put a known good CD in the drive and selected the drive in the MJ tree.  I got the "Gracenote CDDB Registration" dialog but it took over 40 mouseclicks to select the "I already have a CDDB nickname" radio button another few dozen to get "Next" to take.

After getting out of that (finally) I did the "rename" test again and again it took several dozen clicks to get by the "Move file and update database" to take.

My next test will be to clean everything out again and install 293 and see what that does.

Remy.

---------------------
Update:  293 works fine.
Next, install 318 on top...
---------------------

---------------------
Update 2:  Installing 318 on top of 293 gives me the dialog problem again.

AH HA!!!   Turning skins ON fixes the problem.

Visualizations eat up 50 to 100% of the CPU that they are running on. Display quality has no affect on CPU utilization although planatarium uses more CPU than and O-Scope.

I also get the same problems as RemyJ regarding the "rename file from properties" problem.

The problem seems to be that the dialog is never actually active. With repeated clicking, you sometimes get lucky and as the dialog becomes active during the click it may register it and carry out the rename.

The previous problem I reported in the 'rename file from properties' area was similar in that one of the check boxes was disabled and unselectable. That problem seems to be fixed, but is replaced by this one. Reverting to build 312 corrects the problem.

Hmmm . . .

Sounds like a problem I've described earlier . . . 'Confirm File Move' does not work as it should.

???

OK folks with the dialog problems...

Do you all have mega-me skinning disabled by any chance?  What happens if you turn it ON (any skin)?  Does the problem go away?

For me, yes.  When I turn on ANY mega-me skin, the problem goes away.  All the dialogs work with a single click.  I don't LIKE skins, though!

Why is my question being ignored??? Come on guys, you're not like that. It's a simple question. Is the fact that we don't have DSP with Windows Media streaming audio a bug or not?

MJ 318 crashes if you close the proprieties panel while it's saving. It should not be possible to dismiss the panel until finished?

Steps:

-select a 20/30 files (i.e. a Cd with a lot of short tracks)
-right click proprieties
-add a cover art
-click on Save
-the progress bar appears only for a few files and then disappear while MJ is still saving.
-click on the X of the properties dialog to close it
-Crash

Sérgio,

Is the fact that we don't have DSP with Windows Media streaming audio a bug or not?
It's not a bug it's by design. Windows Media Streams are played by Media Player and we can't control DSP settings of WMP. Hopefully that will change in version 9.

Confirm file move: RemyJ has cracked it. It works with MEGAME skins on, but doesnt with skins disabled for me too. Cant wait for a fix in 8.0.319 - after some well deserved R&R for the team of course... :)

The new Media Server is nice but it still needs APL support.

Also opening the file in MJ (browse for file) is A LOT faster for playing than using MS. I know it's been said that it downloads it but some files don't need to, like APE. I can start playing an APE image file in less than second compared to MS which hasn't even been timed cause it took so long (I cancelled it). Same program, same file!

Also when using folder=, the display rule shows foldeRating: but still functions properly.

When going into DSP Studio, the tree automatically hides itself (640X480). Doesn't happen all the time but it happens way too often. I'm not doing it by accident either. Usually happens when "Media Library" is highlighted or going back from Playing Now to Media Library and doing it a couple times.

Problem 1

DataBase Corruped:

Look At This
Song Name: C:\My Music\Chicago - 25 Orto 4.mp3
Artist: Blank
Album: C:\My Music\Chi-lites - 24 Hours Of Sadness.mp3
Genre: C:\My Music\Cecilia Noel & The Wild Clam - 9069.mp3
Path: CD and DVD media|3

This Stoped The Burn At This File Every Time, I Did Not Notice The Data Being Screwed Up

This problem generated A Read Error When Burning. Deleting The Database And Re-Importing Fixed That Problem. When Sending File To The Burner MJ Should Do A Better Job At Ensuring Files Sent To The Que Are Valid Files.

Problem 2

Need More Free On CD-R To Close:

Error Was 'Close Session' command failed on device 0:0:0: Illegal command request (04h 00h 02h 05h 30h 09h) MJ Could Not Close The CD.

And It Seems When You Go To Burn In MJ You Need 1.3-1.4 Megs Free On The Disk For The Disk To Close. So MJ Is Not Correctly Telling The User How Much Room He has Free to Add Files, And Close The Burn.
